An epic race last night:
The race starts with That Kid at pole, followed by Gabor T, Sushanth, ProCM …There was only one yellow in the first half of the race.
But the last 25 minutes of the race was when the fun started. A mechanical breakdown caused a red which went on for 4 minutes. By this time, a light drizzle came and the outdoor track was getting damp. Some parts were still very grippy, but the right-hander onto the back straight, and especially the hairpin became very slick at times. What really made it interesting was that the drizzle was not constant, meaning every lap was different.
Right, back to it. Red turned yellow and the official “Wet Track” sign was out, although it is unclear if everyone read the message. At the first green, 4 people spin out of at the outdoor hairpin causing another yellow, and 2 more people spin on the following restart. This happened at least once more, and the strategy from here on out was simple: Drive carefully on the parts you know are wet. The lap times towards the end were in 36s – 38s.
The race ended with That Kid at first position, followed by …?… and Gabor T.
Special thanks to the marshals and Charlie for recording all this using his quad copter with GoPro attached (Looking forward for the video).
