LMK Speed Secret – Cornering speed. As the saying goes, races are won in the corners. So how to maximize your speed through them?
Go karts have a solid rear axle, which means that both rear wheels are always turning at the same rate. This works great in a straight line, but when you turn the wheel the axle wants to bind which slows the kart. So it only stands to reason that the fastest way around the track is by using as little steering input as possible.
A simple rule of thumb: if you are countersteering (all crossed up) in a corner, you went in too fast. Conversely, if you are steering through a corner, you went in too slow. Steering wheel straight ahead? Just right!
Next week we’ll cover trail-braking, which will further help point you in the right direction.
