Endurance Racing

Endurance Racing is designed to emulate the thrill of team based racing rather than individual competition. Teams are determined either by the group or LeMans Karting staff members. During the race each driver will make pit stops to change with their teammate after a predetermined number of laps. The team with the most laps after allotted amount of time wins the event. To learn more about Endurance Racing, contact us today.

Tuesday Night Enduros

Every Tuesday night join our Team Endurance competition that challenges the drivers, team strategy and endurance. Teams consist of two drivers. There are three mandatory driver changes with no less than 20 laps for each driver stint. This is a one-hour long race and is limited to only 10 teams.

To pre-register please contact (510) 770-9001.

Registration is at 6:30PM and the racing begins at 7PM sharp!

The Tuesday night enduro teams had their first opportunity to run the combination indoor and outdoor track. The track had only recently been opened with corporate teams doing most of the laps. The fastest times turned by the corporate teams were in the 38 second range.

With 8 teams representing the most experienced LeMans Karting racers, it was clear that these times would be shattered. The revised track, which combines both the indoor section of polished concrete with the outdoor sections of paved asphalt, is now one of the most exciting indoor tracks in all California. The grip available on the asphalt is phenomenal and we all know what the indoor sections are like. The new track is a test to your ability to adapt. For the experienced racer, the sensation of driving the track, is like racing at full speed into turn 10 at Thunderhill , only to find out that a thunder shower had dumped an inch of rain in the turn.

Qualifying was very tight with Team Lew Ham Jr. on the pole with a 34.55. Team Warhippo, winners of the previous enduro, was second only .023 seconds back with team ProCM in third at 34.691. The entire field was within a second of each other.

The race was almost completely incident free. Any mistakes were quickly exploited and it was clear that the race was going to be won by the team that made the fewest mistakes. During the first half of the race, Team ProCM faded out of the top 5 with Team Dave and Team Redbull 22 moving up into the fight.

Team Lew Ham Jr. held on to take the win followed by team War Hippo, team Dave, team Redbull 22, team ProCM, team Racing 4 beer, team Viper and team Chris Lock. Team Lew Ham Jr. was able to get into the 33’s (33.953) while the rest of the field was in the 34’s.

Rick has created a great track for the experienced racer and the enduro’s should soon be sold out.

Last week we had 8 teams entered in the Enduro. Qualifying was intense with the entire field separated by only .460 seconds. Team DB3 had the pole with Team Viper in second. Showing impressive speed was team Patrick Chio who qualified 3rd.

At the start of the race, the top three were able to maintain their positions. At the back of the pack, the battles were intense as each team tried to gain positions. At lap 35, the first round of pit stops started. Team ProCM, which had started 7th, had gained 5 places and was in second with team Viper100 in first and Team DB3 in 3rd.

At the half way point, it was team Viper 100 in first, ProCM, which took advantage of the yellow flags was in second and SpeedRacer Larry in 3rd. Team DB3 faded to 5th.

As the laps wound down. Team Viper 100 opened up a 1 lap advantage, while 2 through 5th were all on the same lap. With 2 laps to go, the running order was Team Viper 100 1st, ProCM 2nd , Speedracer Larry 3rd and Patrick Chio 4th, when there was contact between Speedracer Larry (Dave) and Viper 100 which allowed Patrick to make a pass into 3rd. The final finishing order was Team Viper 100, Team ProCM, Team Patrick Chio, Team Speedracer Larry, Team DB3, Team 3 wheeler, Team Sia Bani and Team Ff.

Team DB3 set fastest lap at 18.465. The entire field was in the 18’s with the slowest team at 18.884.

I hope to see you all at the races.

The current Points after 3 rounds has team Viper 100 in the lead with a 6 point lead over team ProCM. Team Hawari is in 3rd place with Team Warhippo in 4th.

This week is final race of round 3 of the 2011 Enduro championship season.

March 7, 2011

Last week, we had 11 teams and 26 drivers with some teams driving with 3 drivers. In addition to having a full field, the race director decided to run the race in reverse. This added to the complexity of the race but with the skill level of drivers at the race, all the teams were able to quickly adapt. The qualifying was a foreshadowing of the race. Team Norcal 1 went out and quickly set the pace for the B group and held the pole. When the A group took to the track, the times continued to fall. Team Sai, with their new team driver Oliver Rowen, quickly set fastest lap while Rick Gaan, driving for Team ProCM was able to match him lap for lap. At the end of Qualifying, Team Sia had the pole by 7 hundredths of a second. The qualifying was so close that he entire field was separated by only 7 tenths of a second.

.7 seconds is a little more than one kart length… for the entire 11kart field!

It was clear from the qualifying that the race would be decided by the team that had the best pit strategy, was the most consistent, and made the fewest mistakes.

At the start, the top 4 teams took a conservative approach and were content to play follow the leader until the field got sorted out. The teams in the back half took a different approach with the predicable outcome. The contact and resulting yellow flag occurred on lap 5. Three laps later there was yet another spin due to contact. Most of the front runners took advantage of the yellows to make an early stop. The entire field was running nose to tail. Anytime a driver made a slight mistake or went wide or pinched their line, they were immediately under attack from the kart behind them. Team Sia heald the lead until lap 43 when Team ProCM took over. Team ProCM held the lead up until lap 143 when there was a full course yellow that stopped the field. Team Dave, took advantage of the very long yellow and was able to take the lead upon the restart. The lead was short lived as Team ProCM, Sia and Speed Racer Larry were able to hunt Team Dave down and on lap 151; the pack was able to pass them and Team ProCM took over the lead. The rest of the field was in disarray with individual battles everywhere on the track, positions 5-10 were changing on every lap.

For the third time in the past 3 weeks, Team ProCM was poised to take the win as it took over the lead. Team Sia on the other hand had other ideas and within 2 laps, Oliver (team Sia) was able to make a clean pass for the lead. Rick (Team ProCM) pushed to try to retake the lead but on 186, while attempting to make a pass in the hair pin, he made a mistake and tapped another kart and was spun out. Team Speed Racer Larry, who had been lurking just behind in 3rd, was able to capitalize on Rick’s mistake and move into second.

At the end of the race it was Team Sia, in first, Speed Racer Larry 2nd, ProCM 3rd, Dave 4th, NorCal 1 5th, Homie G 6th, Kung Pow 7th, Shake and bake 8th, XLR8R 9th, DanM 10th and Hawari 11th.  The top 4 teams were all on the same lap and covered 204 laps. The average lap time of the top 4 teams were, 17.571, 17.575, 17.593 and 17.613 respectively. With one race to go in round 2 and Team ProCM holding a 1 point advantage, we can expect another great week of racing tonight.

Last week, we had 24 drivers. In order to accommodate everyone, the decision was made to race with 3 man teams and to extend the race to 1 ½ hours. Qualifying was also extended so that all 3 drivers got a chance to qualify. At the end of the session, Team Dave was on the pole with a time of 16.483, Team Shake and Bake was second and Team Gung Hay Fat Boi was third. Team ProCM was 7th. The top 7 teams were separated by .8 seconds. The rookie team of Ha Ha Panda was 1.8 seconds off the pace.

Prior to the race, Team ProCM elected to do a kart change while the rest of the field kept their karts.  At the start, team Dave checked out on the field and ran in the front until the first round of pit stops. The rest of the field was again locked in a constant battle with positions 2-7 changing on every lap. The added dimension of having a rookie team in the mix added to the drama. As could be expected, there were numerous yellow flags early on. Team ProCM took advantage of the yellow flags and was in second place after the first round of pit stops.

On lap 85, Team Dave suffered a mechanical failure and had to go to a backup kart. They lost a lap but the marshals gave them the lap back (for you English majors, note the foretelling).  Team ProCM took over the lead for good on lap 85. The team of Eric, Derik, and Rick were able to turn consistent lap times to stay ahead of the field. The only thing that could keep Team ProCM from notching is second victory in a row would be either a mechanical failure or a bone head move.  Despite a combined experience of 144 years, Team ProCM chose the latter. As the laps ran down, Team ProCM and Team Dave opened up a 2 lap lead over the 3rd place team. Team Sia, Shake and Bake and Team Hari were locked in their own battles with each other.

At the final round of Pit stops, timing and scoring showed Team ProCM ahead by 1 lap over Team Dave. However, at lap 220, the timing system finally put the lap back to Team Dave putting both teams on the lead lap! Rick was driving for Team ProCM and despite the various hand gestures and screaming there was no way to let the driver know that Team Dave was directly behind him and now on the same lap. It was at this time that Rick decided to play it safe and not get tangled up in a fight with a kart one lap down and POINTED Team Dave by- a point by for the lead.  Team Dave was then able to open up a 5 second lead and win the race.  Team ProCM was second, Team Sia 3rd, Team Shake and Bake 4th , Team Hari 5th, Team Gung Hay Fat Boi 6th, Team Dan M 7th and Team HaHa Panda a distant 8th.

In all the top 2 teams covered 304 laps with an average lap time of 17.65 seconds. Team ProCM average lap time was 17.68. We can expect another great week of racing tonight.  Check in is at 7:00 PM, drivers meeting at 7:20 with the Race starting at 7:30 PM. Get your team together and lets go out and have some fun!

Cheers,

Eric Scheible

The Urban dictionary defines: Being “Schooled” as being taught a lesson. It is usually used as a verb, as in “Team NorCal 1 Schooled the entire field”. Last week the racing was close only for the first half with team Gaan battling
Team NorCal1 only to slip back into the field after the second driver changes. Both Team Dave and Team ProCM suffered mechanical issues and were never in contention. At the end, it was Team NorCal1 with an easy win.
